Name : Asma Menon
Asma was born in 1961 in Chennai. She obtained her BSC, Visual Communication from the Govt. College of Arts & Crafts, Chennai, 1983 and her MA (Fine Arts) in 2001. She has shown her works in many group shows, some of which are “Sayani”-Kalakriti, Hyderabad, 2004; The Living Wall, British Council, Chennai, 2001; Genesis Art Foundation, Chennai, 2000; Prithvi Art Gallery , Mumbai, 1999; Max Muller Bhavan, Chennai, 1994; Lalit Kala Akademi ,Chennai, 1980. Asma has shown in International exhibitions, the most recent being International Biennial of Mini –Prints, Barcelona, Spain, 2005; International Biennial of Prints, Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, 2004; Auction of works for Afghan refugees- SAVAC, [SOUTH ASIAN VISUAL ARTS}, Toronto, Canada; 10th Asian Art Bienniel,Bangaladesh Shipala ; Academy,Dhaka Group Exhibition of Indian Art at Austin, Texas, International Print Triennial, Kanagawa, Japan; .International Graphic Triennial Bitola, 2001; International Biennial of Prints, Republic of Macedonia, 2000; International Triennial of Prints , Egypt, 1999; Mini Triennial Of Prints, Poland, 1997. She participated in the Poster & Invitation Design, a collection of short plays, for Mithran Devanasan, Chennai, 2005 and Christies Auction for W.I.S.E. Women Artists of India, Mumbai, 1999. She has participated in artists’ camps around the country and has had her work commissioned for many theatre productions & contemporary dance sequences and has done illustrations for the literary special issue of the vernacular issue of India Today, 2002. Asma has been substitute art teacher at the American International School, Chennai since 2004 and has also held successful workshops for children. Asma has been awarded the Women Achievers Award, National Publicity Project, 2002. Her works are in many private and public collections. Asma Menon lives and works in Chennai, India.
